The Community Health Impact Connection (CHiC), Florida Hospital's community benefits program, takes an innovative and rigorous approach to its strategic community benefit giving–one that improves both the health system and the community’s well being in measurable ways. Each CHiC investment decision is based on:
- The establishment of achievable goals and performance objectives
- A clear definition of community organization roles and responsibilities
- A detailed action plan
- Expected outcomes
- Measurement of achievement/return on investment
- A realistic and cost-effective budget
- Potential for replication in other communities and publication of results
Successful CHiC-supported projects result in health improvement and reductions in cost/utilization that exceed the initial investment. Many of these projects become incorporated as institutionally-supported initiatives.

CHiC Online Suite is an online system developed at Florida Hospital to more effectively and efficiently monitor and track the results of community benefits initiatives. Now this system is packaged so that other healthcare systems, nonprofit organizations, and corporate giving entities throughout the country can subscribe and use this tool.
