FUNDING PRIORITIES
Our giving focuses on initiatives that can reduce the frequency of high-risk, high-cost medical interventions, and improve the health and lifestyles of populations prone to these risks; as well as demonstrating the value of such targeted funding.
Our community giving goal is to leverage hospital, foundation and external resources, which focus on five specific areas of need:
- Assuring Appropriate Care - Programs that reduce unnecessary hospitalization or over-utilization of services by providing appropriate care in the appropriate setting, thereby mitigating health care costs.
- Managing Disease and Illness - Disease management programs that care for those who need medical attention outside a hospital environment.
- Access to Health Care - Programs that provide outpatient access to health care.
- Community Health and Wellness - Programs that improve the overall health status of our community through education, prevention and early detection, as well as self-management programs.
- Community Development
Before submitting, we ask you to consider whether your organization and/or program meet our giving criteria:
- Are the goals of your tax-exempt organization compatible with Florida Hospital's Community Giving charter to "improve the health of the Central Florida Community and reduce preventable medical costs and interventions?"
- How will your initiative directly benefit members of our Central Florida community?
- How will your organization report successful outcomes to Florida Hospital?
- Can you demonstrate that your initiative will be able to sustain itself in the long-term?
According to A Guide for Planning and Reporting Community Benefit, "community benefits are programs or activities that provide treatment and/or promote health and healing as a response to identified community needs. They are not provided for marketing purposes."
To be considered a community benefit, a program must meet one of the following:
- Generate a low or negative margin
- Respond to needs of special populations, such as persons living in poverty and other disenfranchised persons
- Supply services or programs that would likely be discontinued - or would need to be provided by another not-for-profit or government provider - if they decision were made on a purely financial basis
- Respond to public health needs
- Involve education or research that improves overall community health
